Several things about this photo: The man with the hand on Ryan's rear is quite a bit older than Ryan, not that that's wrong or anything... but Septimiu (Septi) Teodorescu, the shirtless guy, might be one to look out for. He's known to punch guys in the face based on hearsay. He's also engaged in conversation with a seemingly nervous underager.

I first heard from Carol Kiekhaefer, my new ( mentor | teacher | employer ). She described its origins in some detail. Then I heard from Anthony, and then from Tim. Several others also told me about it. I had to see this thing. So today, I went.

Champagne night not as crazy as last, or perhaps I just didn't take enough photos

Sorry these photos are mostly terrible. I've been using my Panasonic FX-100 a lot lately because it's so much smaller than my D200. Anyway, I'll maybe write captions and such later. But for now, here's the pictures:

Blizzard '08 fiasco

Posted February 9, 2008 4:07 AM | 2 Comments

So, we got a lot of snow on Wednesday. I went to work and school, but it was an adventure. UW stayed open until 3:30 p.m., when Provost Patrick Farrell made an announcement was made canceling classes. I especially loved how Madison Metro was stopping service early, but no UW faculty could leave early without using a sick day. Come on, UW. Wednesday was just a series of bad decisions.

This year, Jessica decided to throw a birthday party for herself. She went all out and bought strobe lights, colored lights, body paints, regular paints, food and more! 'Twas a jolly ol' time!

Outback Steakhouse blimping

Posted September 30, 2007 1:07 AM | 5 Comments

Yesterday I happened to overhear a conversation between Mike G and Keegan K about a blimp ride and needing a camera. I pointed out that I have a camera, and next thing I knew, I was signed up to go on a blimp ride with Keegan. The blimp of choice was the Outback Steakhouse blimp, one of about 10 such blimps in the country.

This'll be short and sweet. My degus had babies a week ago, and they're adorable!

Pissarro at the Milwaukee Art Museum

Posted September 9, 2007 9:13 PM | No Comments

I never know if I get as much out of art exhibits as others do, or as much as I "should." I certainly like looking at the work that goes into a piece, such as the detail of the brush strokes or the overall look of the painting. Perhaps that's enough. I could probably benefit from doing research on the artist first, or at least having some artistic competency. I've never really taken an art history course, but I wish I had. I should buy a book. Any suggestions?
