Quantcast The end of my best year ever? - Through Charlie Gorichanaz's Eyes

The end of my best year ever?

Posted June 5, 2007 6:24 PM

This entry wraps up my second semester at the Herald and brought many exciting changes. I look at photos of myself from as recently as last semester, and I barely recognize the person in the pictures... I've changed so much, and so has everyone else. I'm still no social butterfly, but I am vastly improved over how I was a year ago. I've not done as well academically as I'd hoped, but I learned far more than I ever could have wanted. To my first year in college!

On the last publishing night of each semester, the entire Herald staff sticks around until the very end: when the printer calls with an OK, signaling the conclusion of another edition. At that moment, a barrage of champagne corks nearly shatter the lights and take out fellow Heralders. Assuming no major injuries, a night of office debauchery ensues.

Let's go back to before the paper is done... Here are two copy editors, Amber and Vicki, neither of whom are returning in the fall. :-(

After 56 years with the Herald in various comics capacities, Davy M will sadly be leaving. Anthony will have huge shoes to fill, but I'm sure he'll do well. To Davy!

The night was filled with sentimental moments and talks of greater things to come. Good thing we have cameras to preserve all of this!

Aw, look at Ben. I wonder if he has a girlfriend. ;-)

Actually, I think I went a little too far with him later in the evening. Champagne, anyone?

The following night, which was a Thursday, was the Badger Herald end-of-semester formal party. This semester's festivities took place in the wine cellar of Porta Bella, except for when Tim and I left to stop at Taylor's apartment and at the Herald. We returned, refreshed, and brought some newspapers with us. More on that later.

Aren't they just the most adorable multicolored couple you've ever seen? Hehe. And there's Tim, trying to escape capture by my camera.

Here's when Tim and I had to escape for a while, because the guy who was giving out wristbands seemed to not like us. :-(

Since Tim and I came from the Herald, we decided it'd be appropriate to bring a few copies of our fine publication to pass around. With the help of some coworkers, we discovered that our paper smells really good after drinking a little.

Ryan S was copy chief when I first joined the Herald last fall. He left at Christmas, but thankfully still makes it to Herald events now and then. His girlfriend, Christine E, happens to also be in the Wisconsin International Scholars Program with me!
